Passengers were treated to an experience beyond the music with over 50 events including concerts, workshop events, after-parties, 2 J’ouvert, formal dinners, sporting activities, chef competitions and so much more. The party was fun but I wanted 90% Grenada soca with a smattering of others, but it was probably 50% with the rest spread out over the other islands. There were songs that were popular during Spicemas 2020 that weren’t played at all and I was a little disappointed.

I loved everyone’s costumes especially this really creative Jamaican bobsled team costume; but I don’t think I would do the pre-party again unless it included something in the price and was more organized. The event schedule was sent out a few days before and in the UberSoca Cruise facebook group, people were split between wanting to know the itinerary and not caring about it all. I definitely wanted to know ahead of time instead of having to make split decisions with crews about what they wanted to do and/or attend and also so I didn’t overpack (I brought way too much clothes on the ship). The team had locked in bigger ships to allow even more people to take part in the Ubersoca experience. They were also set to sail for 5-days versus the normal 4 to two exotic locations. Unfortunately, COVID postponed this year’s cruise.

Though it was a nice opportunity to get out and see a little bit of Grand Turk, it was a subpar experience and I should have caught up on sleep instead. Next year, I will reconsider whether I want to do anything during the morning of J’ouvert. After j’ouvert was sleep time (at last) and Midnight Mas, the event where you wear an old costume or “monday wear” piece to invoke the feeling of mas.

I just want to know if there are any prizes at play for these competitions. Perhaps it is because of where we were seated on floor 4, but I felt like the whole affair was very demure. I heard the entertainment but could not see Johanna Chuckaree perform on the piano; I didn’t see the dancing on the main floor nor did I see the steelpan players. I quickly ate my food, drank some wine, took some pictures and went back to my room to pack. The theme this year was Arabian Nights, with a strong inclusion of Bollywood.

I won’t lie, the crowd energy was low and I think it was because everyone was sooooo tired and concerts require a lot of attention. Plus, we got to witness Bunji Garlin sing Happy birthday to Fay-Ann Lyons which was so sweet. Afterwards we started to get ready for the Bacchanal Ball which was a beautiful display of regal African prints, gowns, suits etc.
I almost missed this party but luckily my internal clock woke me up, despite not hearing my alarm. I was part of the 4-device package and saved a lot of money that way - I ended up paying about $31. It wasn’t great everywhere and good luck uploading videos to your social media, but it was essential (for me).
This made for an annoying and uncomfortable experience because of all the feathers and sharp pieces of the costumes. I was at the main Battle Royale event for a very short time - instead I decided to skip the performance-heavy night and rest instead, so that I could fully enjoy the Small Island Party. For this theme, we were encouraged to channel our favorite revolutionary figure or culture of resistance.
While everyone else playing all the big island tunes . He came in and started busting all the small island tunes at one of the main event . After his set they’ brought him back to the stage for a round of applause . My thing about performances is that it creates a lot of low moments , and they had like almost every artist from the Caribbean on that ship.
